Treatment

The first line of treatment is to stop all sport for a period of about 4 weeks. At this point physiotherapy to stretch the quadriceps muscle is commenced and sport can be gradually reintroduced. Repeated flare ups are not uncommon but the condition will invariably burn out as skeletal maturity is approached. In very rare cases a small piece of bone (ossicle) develops and this can cause persistant symptoms. This can be surgically removed through a small incision over the tibial tuberosity.
