Distal Femoral Osteotomy

Once growth has ceased the legs can only be straightened by cutting the bone  (osteotomy) just above the knee. The deformity is corrected and the position held with plates and screws. The osteotomy takes about 6 weeks to become solid (unite). This means that patients will need to use crutches if legs are done sequentially or a wheelchair if both are done at the same time. Hospital stay is approximately 3-4 days.
